About

SKĒMA is a Portland, Oregon based architectural design studio founded by Yukari Kubo and Drew Krauss.

sche·ma /ˈskēmə/
noun a representation of a plan or theory in the form of an outline or model. from Latin schema “shape, figure, form, appearance,” from Greek skhema “figure, appearance, the nature of a thing.”

Architecture can be defined in essence as the intentional assembly of materials to create usable spacial environments. While the requirements of this definition are strictly corporeal, an opportunity exists to provide a product that elicits feeling and thought as well.

To this end, we are committed to clarity in design. We have a strong interest in finding minimalist design solutions for both the emotional impact and cost savings.

In each project the needs of the client, site constraints, and other pressures act in conjunction to shape the ultimate form of the architecture. We engage in an iterative, collaborative design process with clients to help them achieve their goals.
